Today we are discussing the meaning of Import Export code( IEC Code)/Business License for Import and Export business. Import export code is necessary registration documents for doing import and export of goods.
Meaning Of Import Export Code (IEC)
Import Export code is a 10 Digit Number allocated by the DGFT. Import export code is required for any entrepreneur doing Import or Exports of goods. Import export code is useful for Importer and exporter without IEC code number you will not able to do Import and Export of Goods. But For Import or Export of Service Import Export Code (IEC) is Not Mandatory In India.
How to apply Import Export Code
Filing of Import export code application.
- Go to http://www.ieport.com/2012-2013/forms/ANF2A.pdf Fill the necessary application .
- Submit the necessary Documents
Documents required For Import Export code are as Follow

- Two Copies of Letter Heads of the Proprietorship Name
- PAN no. of Proprietor/Individual
- Residential Address of the Proprietor/Individual
- Certificate from Bank for Current A/c In the name of Proprietor/Individual having Current Bank a/c (Part B)
- 1 Month Statement of Bank A/c
- Two copy of passport size photo of Proprietor/Individual
- Any One of the Certificate Needed Out of following ( Certificate of Bombay shop & establishment (Gumasta), CST VAT, Excise , SSI , Service Tax Number )
Documents required For Import Export code For Partnership Firm –
- Two Copies of Letter Heads of the Firm
- PAN no. of Firm & All the Partners
- Residential Address of the All the Partners
- Certificate from Bank for Current A/c In the name of Company or organisation having Current Bank a/c (Part B)
- 1 Month Statement of Bank A/c of Partnership Firm
- Two copy of passport size photo of any one Partners
- Any One of the Certificate Needed Out of following ( Certificate of Bombay shop & establishment (Gumasta), CST VAT, Excise , SSI , Service Tax Number )

- Two Copies of Letter Heads of the Company
- Certificate of Incorporation
- PAN no. of Company & All the Directors
- Residential Address of the All the Directors
- Certificate from Bank for Current A/c In the name of Company or organisation having Current Bank a/c (Part B)
- 1 Month Statement of Bank A/c
- Two copy of passport size photo of Directors
- Certified Copy of AOA / MOA in case of the Company CST or VAT or Excise or SSI or Service Tax Number
- Any One of the Certificate Needed Out of following ( Certificate of Bombay shop & establishment (Gumasta), CST VAT, Excise , SSI , Service Tax Number ).
Note – All the documents should be self attested
III Submit the IEC Application with Documents –
After filing the Forms submit the application at DGFT office of Your Region List are as http://www.ieport.com/2012-2013/forms/1.pdf.
Note :- In case of company documents to be submitted in the region where the company is incorporated.
IV Fee & Expenditures for IEC code
500/- D.D. or online payment to DGFT. (earlier it was 250/-)
V Time Period for getting IEC code
It will take 2 working days to get the IEC Certificate.
Amendment in Import export Code –
1 Fees revised from Rs 250 to 500
2 Now an application for IEC can be made only online. offline mode of application is not allowed.
3 Application should be made in a revised form ANF 2A
4 Now an person can submit the application with digital signature also, no need to sign the hard copy of the form
5 Verification code will be received on Email id and Mobile at the time of filing application for IEC code.
6 Digitally signed copy of IEC certificate can be downloaded online from the DGFT site.
7 Time limit of IEC certificate is 2 days.
