Today we are discussing the documents required for filing the income tax return, Due date for income tax return and how to e-file the Income Tax Return for individual.
I. Is it compulsory to filing income tax return-
Employee earning upto Rs 5 lakhs in a year not required to file income tax return compulsory, but he can filed the return voluntarily, but for claiming refund of TDS deducted it is compulsory to file the return.
II. E- Filing of income tax return is mandatory
E –filing of return is mandatory for income above Rs 5 lakhs.
III. Due date of filing income tax return
The last date of filing return is 31st July for individual,
IV. Can we file the income tax return after due date
Yes, after due date a person can file the return but within an 2 years from the last date of financial year. Example – for financial year ending 31st march 2014 a person can file the return upto 31st march 2016. There is no penalty if he filed the return after due date. If a person file the return after due date than he cannot revise the original return filed.
V. How to file online income tax return-
Income tax e-filing can be done by following simple steps-
1) Register on Income tax website- First step is to get himself registered on income tax website-
Go to Income tax
Click on register your self
File the necessary information (Pan, date of birth, address, secret question etc.)
2) E-filing of Income tax return
IT Return Form – Select the Suitable form for filing the return Download ITR 1 in case of only salary and interest income and download ITR-2 if any income other than business income.
Enable the Macro first and fill the details (Green column) in ITR 1 or ITR 2.
After filing the form validate sheet and generate FVU file.
Login to the income tax and upload the return.
3) Income Tax Acknowledgment (ITR V)
After uploading the return Acknowledgment will be generate (ITR V), save and print the acknowledgment and sent it to the Income Tax department – CPC, Post BoxNo.1, Electronic City Post Office, Bangalore –560100 by speed post only
4) E-verify the income tax return
Now no need to send the hard copy of acknowledgment, if you have e-verify the same. You can e-verify using aadhar OTP or login with your bank accounts.
